Adventure Racing Legend to Help Create Expedition Experience

San Jose, Calif. -- Primal Quest today announced that John Howard, the central pioneer of adventure racing, is joining the world's premier Expedition Adventure Race as Technical Director.

Very few individuals have dominated endurance sports in the way John dominated adventure racing. Since winning the first ever major adventure race held in the world, the Raid Gauloises in 1989, he went on to win every significant race in the sport, including Eco-Challenge (3 times), the Raid Gauloises (3 times), the Elf Authentique, the ESPN X-Games (twice) and the Southern Traverse. In addition, he has served as a course designer or advisor to numerous high-profile outdoor adventure events, including the Mild Seven Outdoor Quest, Action Asia and New Zealand's Coast to Coast.

AR News Team ARGEAR.com Places 2nd at the Grand Targhee Throw Down

After not being able to quickly find the last two checkpoints and losing valuable time, I was happy to be riding to the finish line to see if we were fast enough to win the race. Seconds after crossing the finish line, the race director said, “Are you guys too good for checkpoint 15? You missed checkpoint 15.” My mood immediately sunk. I was thinking that I had finished every adventure race I have ever entered and this might be the first race I didn’t finish.

The teams left together, trekking through to checkpoint 24, an impressive 4-tier rope ascent.

AR News Team ARGEAR.com Wins the Timpanogos Rumble!

“Bang” went the start gun and we started to sprint to the first corner on our mountain bikes. Around the first corner was a wash board dirt road leading down the hill. About three hundred yards down the race director yelled “you went past the turn” so I turned a hard left and went straight onto the flagged trail with my teammates right behind me. Several racers had gone pasted the trail head and one racer had gone right over their handlebars.

AR News Explore Sweden Final Day (Press release 2005-05-19)

Final day of Explore Sweden. The last team finished the race early this morning. Team Sole crossed the finish line at 20.48 last night, and Team Nomad, who had gotten the cut off stretched so they would be able to finish, came in at 06.47 this morning. Very tired and haunted by sleep monsters, after having raced for 114 hours and 47 minutes, but happy to finally have finished the race.

The teams are now packing their gear in the warming sun on the parking lot in Kittelfjäll. Tons of wet and dirty gear that needs to be stuffed into boxes for making the flights back to their home countries.

AR News Explore Sweden Finish (Press release 2005-05-17)

Cross Sportswear are the winning team of Explore Sweden Expedition Adventure Race 2005. After 76 hours and 20 minutes of racing, the Swedish team crossed the finish line at 16.20 Tired and cold but very happy, as the snow was falling in the hard wind. "It feels great! We had no real problems during the race, but at the end we were a little worried that team Lundhags would catch us, as they are very good skiers," said Mats Andersson, team captain. "Now we are going to celebrate in the hot tubs that we stepped up one place from last year, when we came in second," continued Per Westling. "It is even more fun to win when there are so many good teams in the race," smiled Natasha Vestling. Mats added that "The race was a lot harder this year, with a very well designed course."

AR News Explore Sweden Day 2 (press release 2005-05-16)

We are now into the third day of racing. The weather is still chilly,
with a light wind blowing. Teams are cold and wear lots of clothes on
all the sections.

There are now three teams that have withdrawn from the race. Team
Holofiber yesterday, and team GoLite and Nike today. Michael Tobin in
team Nike has felt ill since the start of the race. During the bike leg
he had to be towed by his team mates, unable to pedal. "I'm suffering
really bad, but you have to tell me if I look too bad. We are not going
to withdraw." But during the orienteering section around lunch today he
could not go any further and his team mates had to continue unranked.
Aaron Prince in GoLite has not been able to keep any food and they had
to withdraw from the race early this morning.
